Christmas Tree Accent Nail with Bobbie Star Gazer

Nothing says Christmas quite like a pretty tree filled with lights and sparkly baubles and topped with a glittering star. Right?

I wanted to do some Christmas tree nail art this year, but I didn’t really want to have a tree on every nail so I decided to go with an accent nail instead. I started with two coats of NYC Fashion Safari on all my nails and then applied  Klean Colors Military Green with a small brush and small strokes to make the tree for the accent. I decked it out with a dotting tool and a glitter star for the topper. For the rest of the nails, I added one coat of Bobbie Star Gazer over the base. Star Gazer was so pretty in the bottle, but I have to admit I was disappointed when I tried it. By itself, it was so faintly pigmented that I’m positive I would have had VNL even after 3 or more coats. The glitter may have been dense enough to cover everything up, but choosing NYC Fashion Safari as my base gave me the color I was looking for and everything ended up alright. Being a VNL-aphobe means I don’t play with jellies very much, but I will have to experiment more to make use of the pretty jellies I do have.

Anyway, this isn’t my best work and I don’t LOVE it like I did my snowflake nails. I’m not a huge fan of nudes on my nails so, honestly, it doesn’t really stand a chance. That being said, it IS cute and I still learned something important: Elmer’s School Glue Gel (the blue stuff) works as a fantastic peel-off base for glitter polish. I squeezed some into an clean polish bottle, applied one thick coat, and let it dry well before applying my polish. I only sported this look for a day before taking it off, so I’m not sure about the wear time.

That’s it for me today. It’s been a long week for me. I hope you are having a great one. Do you use anything as a peel off base for glitter polish? What polish/es have you used recently that looked the bomb in the bottle but bombed when swatched?

Kleancolor Chunky Holo Purple over San San Red Gleam

Hello all!

I’m sorry I haven’t posted much this week. Everyone has been extremely busy around these here parts and that leaves little time for my nails. It’s a sad story I know. But it’s all for a good cause and I did actually get to do my nails a couple of times. I went with simple but pretty looks. I just haven’t had the time to sit down and get them up on the blog. This next week promises to be a bit less hectic so hopefully I’ll be back to my old routine. (Fingers and toes crossed!)

Kleancolor Chunky Holo Purple over San San Red Gleam with bow charm accent

I started off with two coats of San San Red Gleam. I don’t really get why they named it Red Gleam since it really looks just like the shade in the picture. More like Dark Pink Gleam. Ha! Anyway, I was kind of dissapointed in the formula for Red Gleam . It applied easily enough and I had high hopes for it’s opacity. But even with this being a dark color that passed the “brush test”, I still had a few thin spots after the second coat. It’s only really noticeable in certain lighting. I went ahead and stuck with two coats as I topped it off with two coats of Kleancolor Chunky Holo Purple which was easy as pie to apply. Come to think of it, I have made my fair share of pies and it was actually MUCH easier than pie. Just sayin’!

As you can see, for a finishing touch I added a bow to the accent nail. I’m still not too crazy about 3D nail art so the bow will have to grow on me a bit. But my 4 year old loves it. According to him, “The one without the bow is not good at all. But the bow is great!” So we’re going to go with the recommendation of my 4 year old… this time.

Accidental Fairy Princess

When I ordered my first Kleancolors, the purple chunky holo was the first to catch my eye. Looking at the bottle I wasn’t sure what color to use as a base and went for a pastel purple hoping it would still let the holo’s base color show through. What I ended up with was pretty but extremely girly. Like I kept thinking, these look like what one would find on fairy princess’ nails. Anyone who knows me knows that’s not exactly my style. So while the end result was really pretty and sparkly, it was too much for me… Especially considering that I had to make an appearance the next day at a government office. So here are my extra girly fairy princess nails. The underwear on this is one coat of Caronia First Crush and the reddish sparklies showed up a lot more IRL. Next time around I will definitely be trying it with a deeper color for underwear.

Chunky!!!

So I finally got my hands on some Kleancolors polishes and I’m loving them so far. This is one and a half coats of Army Green topped with two gorgeous coats of Chunky Holo Black! I love this combo so much. It is yellow and orange and gold and green and black all at the same time! It’s so stunning and somehow subtle at the same time. I have been wearing it for several days now and I’m only having a bit of chipping on the places where my nails are weak. I’m impressed!
