3D Flowers

Woohoo! Look at me! Posting two of Short and Sweet in Texasnail challenges in a row. On the correct day no less! I’m proud of myself. I’m getting to feeling better and I enlisted the help of my other sister (We’ll be calling her “The Bookworm since she is definitely a book lover). I’m not a huge fan of 3d nail art so I don’t have anything but rhinestones in that department so I decided to do something with those. (I’m hoping to get my hands on some metal studs soon)

The Bookworm also needed work appropriate nails and she likes softer colors so we started off with two coats of Caronia – First Crush and then I added the rhinestones and put topcoat on very slowly. I saw a tutorial a while back by Robin Moses where she mentioned going very slowly over rhinestones with topcoat helps with bubbling and I have to say it was the best experience I’ve had so far with topcoat over rhinestones. 🙂 Thank you Robin Moses!
I hope y’all like this feminine look. Have a fabulous day!

Accidental Fairy Princess

When I ordered my first Kleancolors, the purple chunky holo was the first to catch my eye. Looking at the bottle I wasn’t sure what color to use as a base and went for a pastel purple hoping it would still let the holo’s base color show through. What I ended up with was pretty but extremely girly. Like I kept thinking, these look like what one would find on fairy princess’ nails. Anyone who knows me knows that’s not exactly my style. So while the end result was really pretty and sparkly, it was too much for me… Especially considering that I had to make an appearance the next day at a government office. So here are my extra girly fairy princess nails. The underwear on this is one coat of Caronia First Crush and the reddish sparklies showed up a lot more IRL. Next time around I will definitely be trying it with a deeper color for underwear.
What do you think?

Going Native

These nails were inspired by one of my favorite types of jewelry. I hope you can see the American Indian influence of the red coral and opal inlay with turquoise as well. I think it turned out very well especially considering I free-handed everything. I was worried my lines would be very uneven and crooked. But, turns out being a perfectionist can pay off in some areas. 🙂

I created these for a nail art challenge hosted by Louise of Mommy Loves Nail Polish to celebrate her blossoming Facebook page. Go check her out. She is a sweetie.

To get this look I used
Sansan – Sea green
Sally Hansen -Fireball red
Caronia – Crystal
Kiss Nail art striper in black
Dotting tool for stippling

Leave a comment and let me know what you think. She will have a photo album open tomorrow for voting so go check out all the entries and put your 2 cents in.

Pink Passion

I knew I wanted something that was girly for Valentine’s Day and this is what I came up with. I started with two coats of this extremely pink polish and then pulled out my stamping plates and put a heart on each nail and then finished off by adding quilting around the heart and rest of the nail. I used a straight pin at an angle to attempt straight looking stitches. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be. I’m sure someone has a tutorial out there which might have a super easy method for perfect stitches but I just came up with this and wanted to see if i could figure out how to get the look in my head. I think it’s time to invest in another brush to cut down to a tiny point. It seems to me a brush may work better. This is definitely not my best work but I do like it. It is very festive.

When I put the base color on I had the following conversation with my hubby:
Hubby: “Wow! That’s a really pretty color. What is it called?”
Me: “You think so? It’s called Pink Passion. I don’t know if I love it. It’s just so pink.”
H: “yeah, I really really like that color. It makes me happy just looking at it. Do you have a back up bottle?”
Me: “No. Wait, So you are saying you like Barbie pink?”
*We look around a while comparing pink things and determining that this isn’t quite Barbie pink.
*Hubby adds “Backup bottle of Pink Passion” to shopping list.
Long story short, Pink Passion by Caronia is Hubby approved. 🙂

I hope you guys like it.
