I’ve got a Halloween inspired look for you today. I sat down with black, purple, green and orange and thought I had decided what to do for some skittles. After I set to work though, I decided on a simpler more classy look and I really like what I came up with.
I started with 3 thin coats of Oh My Golly Hematite on my pinky and 2 coats of Girl Stuff Lov Lav on the others. I stamped with Oh My Golly Purple Passion and then black stamping polish. I used my brand new Fun stamping plate 8 by Fab Ur Nails that I won in a giveaway (I got Lov Lav and the stamping polish in the giveaway too. I’ll have a post about that soon) The Stamping plate worked like a charm.
While I was surveying the finished product I could not help but be reminded of the Wraith hive ships in Stargate Atlantis. Anyone out there get that vibe too? I think it could also pass for some spider webs.
I’ve got an out of the ordinary post for you today. I don’t have any nail art to show but I need your help.
My blog was nominated for a Best Cebu Blog Award and I need votes to have a chance at winning. I figured since this is a blog award, why not ask my wonderful followers to help me out. If you like my blog then please click on the following link and like the Facebook post with my entry.
Mine is the only nail art blog and it’s considered a fashion blog. Here’s hoping it will help make nail art more main stream in Cebu. 😉 Thank you so much for your consideration and support. I hope you all have a great day!
Before I show you my nails today I’d like to take a moment to remind you that I’ve got a lovely GIVEAWAY going on right now. If you haven’t joined already I hope you will do so and tell your friends about it. I’ve got 3 great prizes up for grabs and it is open internationally.
I’ve got a very simple swatch and review for you today. I’ve swatched Bobbie Purple Dazzle over Klik Purple Velvet to get this pretty look. (Klik Purple Velvet is a frosty purple that is a bit darker than Purple Dazzle.) Purple Dazzle is labeled as a “glaze” and I would describe it as a jelly like frosty purple base with holographic gold glitter floating around in it. It’s quite pretty. I just wish that they had either made the base without the shimmer or used smaller glitter. If you look carefully you can see that some of the glitter is the size of standard craft glitter and, because it is suspended in a frosty base, the glitter from the first coat appears bumpy under the second coat. It doesn’t look even in one coat so a second coat IS needed. I do like it but I’m not sure I would buy another bottle of this shade. Do you have it? Do you love it? Hate it? Or stand somewhere in between like me?
Bobbie polishes are available at many department stores and beauty supply stores for 36 Philippine Pesos ($0.83) for an 8ml bottle.
I know it’s been a bit quiet around here this week and I’m sorry about that. I haven’t been able to do much with my nails this past week as I’ve been having a lot of vertigo due to the earthquake that hit last week and all the subsequent aftershocks. The 7.2 magnitude earthquake’s epicenter was in Bohol which is the island next door to us so we felt a big quake too and all the aftershocks are quite unnerving. Having vertigo is really annoying but I’m still thanking God and counting my blessings because it is nothing compared to those who are really suffering from the damage of the quake in Bohol. If you would like to donate funds to help those affected by the earthquake then please visit http://www.redcross.org.ph/.
Today’s manicure is a special one. A friend of mine posted on Facebook at the beginning of October stating that, in addition to breast cancer awareness month, October is also the month of pregnancy and infant loss awareness. October 15th is Worldwide Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.
The website www.october15th.com has more information if you would like to check it out. This campaign all about supporting people who have experienced this devastating loss. While I have not experienced this myself, I do have several family and friends who have miscarried and lost babies. If you have experienced such a loss, I’d like to dedicate this to you and your sweet angel baby.
www.october15th.com has butterflies incorporated into their logo and so I wanted to go with that. For this very simple manicure I used CC Miss Bliss and Over The Moon and some lovely butterfly water decals I got from Blooming Nail Cebu. I used different lighting so you could see the holo.
Wow! That is quite a title huh? I decided to put all that in the title in hopes that this would be easily found by anyone searching for Wheel Of Time (WOT) nail art. I couldn’t find any when I Googled it although I know I have seen something somewhere a long time ago.
If you have read the EPIC 14 book (plus a prequel) series by Robert Jordan then you can probably interpret and enjoy this design easily. But in case you have not, I’ll give you a brief explanation.
In the WOT world, the Amyrlin Seat is basically the queen of the whole world as all kingdoms bow to her and submit to the will of the “White Tower”. The White Tower is where all women who can channel (do “magic”) go to be trained and when they graduate to a full fledged “Aes Sedai” they pick an “Ajah” based on their personal preference. Each Ajah goes by a color (Brown Ajah, Grey Ajah, White Ajah, Red Ajah, Yellow Ajah, Green Ajah and Blue Ajah) and they dress according to their Ajah’s color. The Amyrlin is head of all Ajahs. She is “from all Ajahs and yet of none” and to symbolize that, she wears a stole with a stripe of each of the 7 Ajah’s colors. That’s where I came up with the stripes. The accent nail is “The Flame of Tar Valon” which is the official symbol of the Amyrlin and the White Tower. That is just a tiny bit of info about the series. It is a REALLY long story!
I imagine if you haven’t read the books then this won’t be much of a manicure to you. But, even if you aren’t familiar with the MASSIVE back story behind the inspiration of these nails, consider how hard it was to free hand these stripes. Ha! It did take a while and I know they are not perfect. I planned to do both hands but it was so late after I finished these that my Cinderella hand just got skittles so I could get to bed at a decent hour. Then my topcoat bubbled in the middle of the nail. Oh well, sometimes topcoat kills the mani. I struggle at times to float the brush to avoid smudging and to avoid bubbling at the same time.
That’s all for now. I meant to get this up on Saturday but time got away from me. It tends to do that with two kids to run after. I hope you all have a great week.
