Purple Mix’N’Match Mani (Featuring Pretty Nifty Thrifty Decals)

Howdy!
I’ve got a fun skittle mani to share today. I wanted to try out my Pretty Nifty Thrifty water decals as an accent mani. So I used one of the “Streaks” decals on my ring finger. Each set includes 12 decals which is enough for one full set of nails with a couple of extras for accent nails. Check out my review of these great decals to see my application tips. I did an ombre with the rest of the nails and added some triangle studs I just purchased. I think this looks really cool. Don’t you? I received a bunch of compliments on them.

Want to know what these pretty purple polishes are?
Pointer – Ballerina by Nails To Go
Middle – Tropical Breeze by L.A. Colors
Pinky – Amethyst by Chic

I used a coat of white under the water decal to keep the colors vibrant. I’m not sure why I can’t get the decals to photograph as clear as they look IRL. But they really do look great.

If you are following me on Instagram you already know this… But Pretty Nifty Thrifty is generously sponsoring a giveaway (open to Philippine residents only). Three lucky winners get their pick of 3 sets of decals as a prize. All you have to do to join is follow @thenailinator and @prettyniftythrifty on IG, repost the picture about the giveaway with #pntgiveaway, and tag a few friends.  What are you waiting for? Go! Go! Go! Winners will be announced on Sept. 20!

I hope you are having a great day!
Hugs!

L.A. Girl Sand Blast in Sand Storm

Hi Girls!
I finally found an orange shade I loved a couple of weeks ago and now I’m back with a nude that I love. I have come across several nudes but have never liked one enough to wear it on my nails. I’ve got a very pinkish undertone to my skin, so I guess I needed something with a touch of pink to make it work for me. Apparently, L.A. Girl Sand Storm is just right.

L.A Girl 3D Effects Sand Storm with studs

My sweet friend, Jax, of Craftynail sent me Sand Storm a while back, and I’m so glad she did. I added gold studs for a classy but edgier look. I love it! It made me wish I had some triangle shaped studs though. I’ve added that to my shopping list for the next time I go nail art shopping.

All you need is 2 coats of Sand Storm for full, even coverage. I’ve got 3 coats on here because I wore it by itself for a day, then added another coat when I was ready to add the studs. I did not try this polish with topcoat so I’m not sure how that would look. Cleanup took a little bit of extra effort compared to a regular creme polish but not nearly as much work as glitter.

Well, what do you think? Do you have a favorite nude shade? Do you struggle with nudes like I do?

I hope you have a wonderful day!
Hugs from me to you,
Rachael

Girlstuff Joy and My Blogiversary!

Hi Gals!
Happy New Year! I hope you have had a fun 2014 so far. We were able to spend a week with some dear friends relaxing and laughing the days away. I did nails for several people and it was a lot of fun. That explains my absence around here these past few days.

You may not realize it, but it was one year ago today that I decided to take the plunge and start my blog. Happy Blogiversary to me! You can check out my very first post here. I’m amazed at the feedback I have received. Thank you all for your support for me and my blog this past year. I am so glad to have such great gals (plus the handful of guys out there, yeah, I know you are watching, too) interested and inspired by my nail art. I have to thank my husband for being ridiculously supportive and willing to teach his tech-challenged wife about HTML and how to use different social medias. I also have to thank my mom and the Shutterbug for encouraging me to start this blog in the first place and not letting my self-consciousness and insecurity stand in the way of sharing my passion with the world. I have had so much fun getting to know you and making friends with many of you via email and FB. Your likes, shares, and comments mean so much to me. Here’s to more fun and fabulous nails in 2014!

Girlstuff Joy with gold studs

Hoping our year is filled with joy, the polish I’m sharing with you today is Girl Stuff “Joy”. Joy is a gorgeous purple with loads of shimmery gold. I’ve used two thickish coats as the formula is a bit on the jelly side. I LOVE this polish! The purple is a beautiful shade, but the gold shimmer just makes me flip over this polish. It is so interesting and sparkly. Application was easy, and cleanup was a breeze too. As you can see, I also added some studs I purchased from Blooming Nail Cebu. My nephew asked me why I had seeds on my nails. Ha!

Aren’t they pretty?
Here it is on its own.

I acquired Joy when I won my very first giveaway a while back. I won Natalie Brookes’ Instagram giveaway and I love the prizes! I won 4 girl stuff polishes, 1 full sized Seche Polish (not pictured because I’m a goof and spaced out) and a Seche travel French manicure kit. I also won an XL Stamper and 3 special stamping polishes and four XL stamping plates. Lots of awesome goodies! Thanks again to Natalie for the giveway!

Well, that’s it for me today. I hope you have had a great weekend and that you have a great week ahead. Hugs to you all!

Doctor Who Nail Art

Before I get to the nails  I want to take a moment and thank you all for the wonderful comments and for liking my photos on FB and Instagram. Y’all make this so exciting. I even got a couple of award nominations over the weekend! Yay! I’ll have to get to that soon. I have been so bad about keeping up with those. :O oopsie!

Great news girls!
I’m officially out of the nail art funk! (and the crowd goes wild)

My submission for the 31 day challenge today would be considered a stretch for many but not so much for me. The theme is “Inspired by a book”. While Doctor Who is obviously a TV series, I have never seen the show. The Shutterbug, on the other hand, is an avid fan and I happened upon a collectors item book at a used book store and flipped through it to familiarize myself a bit. So you see how this qualifies as “inspired by a book” for me. The Shutterbug has been aching for Doctor Who nail art and she came up with what she wanted and told me the ten nail designs she wanted and we went from there. I have never watched Doctor Who so she had to explain most of them and show pictures.

Doctor Who nail art: fez, blue suit, dalek, 3d glasses, two hearts, TARDIS, Cyberman, andipose

From left to right we have The Doctor’s (Matt Smith) fez, The Doctor’s (David Tennant) blue suit, a gold Dalek, The Doctor (Tennant) and his 3D glasses, two hearts representing The Doctor’s two hearts, the TARDIS, a Cyberman and a little andipose guy. On the thumbs below we have tally marks from the episode with The Silence and a galaxy nail.

Do you like them? My favorite is the gold Dalek. I think they all look cool and The Shutterbug keeps saying they are the most awesome nails ever so I think I executed her dream look well. Hopefully those of you who are Whovians (????) like them too.

This is my first time photographing someone else’s nails in the lightbox so the pictures are a bit different. I think you get the picture.

I used a ton of supplies to do these and I’m not going to list them all but here’s a picture…

I hope you are all having a great day. Today was our day off and we got to go out and run some errands and play with the kids. Good times!

Hugs!

Fuzzy nails!

Wow! Thank you guys for all the love and comments on my chalkboard nails I posted last night. I’m so pleased that everyone likes them so much!

Day 9 of the Rather Awesome 31 Day Challenge Giveaway is “Textured” and I’ve been wanting to try out the flocking powder I got from Blooming Nail Cebu so that’s what I went with today. It’s kind of funny to note that I picked this up when I dropped by their store and then they sent me a jar of the same color. It’s a good thing it was my favorite color of the bunch huh? I believe this is the one that is listed as #6 on their page although the container is not marked with any number. These are available for 38 pesos per jar.
I started with one coat of Oh My Golly Jive and used tweezers to dust the fuzz on to the wet polish. It wasn’t really difficult and it was surprisingly fast to do. I couldn’t just leave them alone so I added a silver stud which I also purchased from Blooming Nail Cebu.

I’m not sure how I feel about velvety nails just yet. I think I’ll have to wear themlonger next time to be able to give it a fair chance.

Have you tried velvet nails? What do you think of them?
