L.A. Girl Sparkle Ruby with Edgy Tips

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner but, instead of flowers and hearts, I’ve got something different for you today. These colors are typically what you would see in a Valentine’s mani but it is edgier than most “romantic” looks. I wasn’t really going for an anti-Valentines mani, but I did want something special.

I saw a picture online ages ago of a line work mani by Haus Of Lacquer and I really liked the look, although I doubted I could pull off that particular look. I stumbled across the picture again this week and decided to a modified version of it and this is what I ended up with. I love it!
L.A. Girl Sparkle Ruby with edgy tips

I started with 3 coats of L.A. Girl Sparkle Ruby (You could get away with 2 easy but the color is much deeper with a 3rd coat) and then used my striping brush and free handed the lines with Sally Hansen X-treme Wear in Golden-I. I will be getting a back up bottle of Golden-I when I go to the US in April. It is perfect in every way!

You have heard me rave about L.A. Girl 3D Effect polishes in the past, and I still can’t get enough of them. I’ve used Sparkle Ruby before, but my nail shape is different and I still love it. I will have to see about getting my hands on the colors from this collection that I don’t have.

I’ve included a light box shot (above) and one with some direct light (below) so you can see some of the holo sparkle and the depth. Just gorgeous!

Are you a flowers and hearts kind of girl, or do you like things more on the edgy side? I personally love girly things, but I am challenging myself to try new things and looks that I have shied away from before. I do have some girly ideas up my sleeve, but I’m learning that I like some things I didn’t think I would! It has been fun!

I hope you have a great “hump day”! Don’t forget to make someone smile today.

Hugs,
Rach

Copycat Stripes

ORLY Nite Owl was provided to me for my honest review.
All opinions are my own. 🙂

Today is the last day of the Rather Awesome 31 Day Challenge Giveaway, and we are tasked to recreate a manicure done by someone else. I want to take a moment to thank Brijit of Brijit’s Digits, Jacqui of Crafty Nail and Jemma of Eeeek! Nail Polish! for hosting this challenge. It has been loads of fun!

Now, before I show you what I’ve come up with, I’ve got to tell you about the very first blogger event that I was able to join. Last week, ORLY Philippines had a small get together, and I got to go and meet some of the ladies working with ORLY Philippines along with several other beautiful ladies from Cebu who have beauty and fashion blogs. I was so excited to finally connect with other bloggers in my city, and I hope to get together with them again soon.

At the event, we were given loot bags with samples, and when I saw ORLY Nite Owl, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it.

With all the great designs I’ve seen during the challenge, I was hard-pressed to pick an absolute favorite. So I decided to recreate the first manicure that I saw that made me think, “I haven’t done a look like that and I’d really like to try that.” And that brings us to this lovely look done by Jacqui of Crafty Nail for the “stripes” theme on day 11. (Please do check out her blog. She has some skills and she is super sweet to boot!) I’ve never done this look before so I had to give it a go, and ORLY Nite Owl was the perfect base for this look. I added somewhat random stripes using a striping brush and Jocarste Silver (26), Oh My Golly First Date, and Sally Hansen Mint Sorbet. My finished product makes me think of ice cream. What do you think?

Here’s a swatch of ORLY Nite Owl. I’ve got 2 1/2 coats on and it’s just gorgeous. I adore the shimmer, and I love how it’s work safe without being boring. Have a great day girls!

Reverse Gradient Leopard Print

All products used were purchased by me or given as a gift to me by a friend.
All opinions are my own. 🙂

Day 22 of the Rather Awesome 31 Day Challenge Giveaway is “animal themed” and I’ve been hankering for some leopard print.

Have you ever had an idea for some nail art that looked amazing in your head but didn’t quite translate the way you expected on your nails? Yeah, me too. But this is NOT one of those ideas.
I wanted to try a reverse gradient leopard print manicure (I’ve never seen one of those) and picked a color scheme and went all in and look what I came up with….

TADAAAA!!!

Oh yes! This look rocks! I’m not usually one to toot my own horn but I did GOOD! I started off with one coat of Sally Hansen Mint Sorbet then sponged on Mint Sorbet, CG For Audrey and L.A. Colors Atomic with a makeup sponge. Then I used a dotting tool with Mint Sorbet and Atomic for the spots and outlined them with Chic Black Velvet. This is definitely not a subtle look but I think it’s a lot of fun. 🙂 I’ve got a fun day out tomorrow and I’m excited I’ll be rocking these pretties all day.

I hope you guys love these as much as I do. Have a great day!

Wishful Flowers

A local nail product company called Wish has these adorable nail stickers that I got and decided to try for my floral mani for Short and Sweet in Texas’ Nail challenge for today. Consider this my review of this product.

I started off with two coats of Sally Hansen Mint Sorbet and then I carefull added my stickers to my thumb nails and accent nails. They looked so cute. Then I added topcoat and then they were not so cute! They have shriveled up on the ends and although they stuck well to the still tacky polish they are not laying flat. I’m so disappointed. A second coat of topcoat helped a bit but these don’t live up to my expectations. I need to get my hands on some water decals. Oh well, on to tomorrows mani. It more than makes up for this let down!

Ruffles

I tried to publish this the other day and I just discovered that it didn’t work. Oops! I’m still here. Just had a technical problem. We just got back from a trip out of town with a bunch of friends. We had a blast!

I have seen several manicures like this and never gave it a try until now. I just grabbed some colors I thought looked pretty and gave it a go. After applying two coats of the purple, I used the bottle brush in Mint Sorbet and did three strokes to make the ruffle look, then added the pink. I did have some issues with opacity especially the pink which is unfortunate. But I think it looks cute. What do you think?
To get this look I used:
Sinful colors – Amethyst
Sally Hansen Mint Sorbet
L.a. Colors – Raspberry
