Purple Skittles

Howdy ladies!

By the time you read this I’ll be at the beach relaxing with the family for a few days! I live in a country with over 7,000 islands but only make it to the beach once or twice a year if we are lucky. Even then, we usually end up going only when we have guests from the US. In this case, my wonderful nother-in-law is visiting from Texas and we are taking some time off to chill at the beach with some great friends. Next week we will be back home and will play the tourists again and go sight seeing around town. Fun!

I did these the day after I saw this manicure by Chit Chat Nails. She mentions on her blog that she got this design from @madicures. I love how feminine this is and it’s a skittle mani which I also love!

The light purple is Oh My Golly Prom Queen, the darker purple is Klik Ube shake and for the stripes and the middle finger I’ve used Miss Beauty Diamondmax #8.

I went with a purple and silver theme since I don’t have a gold yet but that will be changing very soon! My MIL is bringing me some goodies and my sisters will be coming back from Texas as well next week and The Shutterbug is playing the polish mule so I’ll be posting some nail haul pictures soon. I’m most excited about my Color Club Halo Hues and LA Girl 3D polishes! Any nail polish/art goodies you have coming your way soon that you are excited about?

What’s in a name?

Hi again!

I’m still on vacation and having a blast!

I had posted this a while back and was surprised to notice it in my drafts. So I apologize if you are one of the 2 people who already read this before I somehow managed to click “revert to draft”.

I thought I’d take a moment to let you guys know how I came up with the name for my blog since so many people have told me they like the name. Not only does it sound cool, it also has some sentimental value. Maybe not all of you have kids but those who do have probably heard of that TV show Phineas and Ferb. Well, my hubby and son love watching that show when they can. Dr. Doofenshmirtz is the evil genius who always comes up with crazy inventions and they all have -inator at the end of them. See pic below.

So when I was trying to decide on a name for this blog I decided to go with The Nailinator. 🙂 Thanks to the men in my life for the inspiration.

Catch ya later gals! Have a great week!

ORLY Witch’s Blue

If you follow me on my Facebook page on on Instagram then you have already seen a sneak peek of this stunning blue from ORLY. Witch’s Blue has great formula and was so easy to apply and clean up. I have done my share of mumbling under my breath trying to clean up around the cuticles after using a dark color but there was no mumbling with this baby!

Here, I’m wearing it with a gold glitter I purchased from Blooming Nail Cebu.

Isn’t it just lovely? I can’t really decide if I like it more with or without the glitter as they are both so pretty.

I’ve got to tell you that I’m considering starting a “Fail at this Friday” feature where I can showcase how hard I fail at certain things… like one stroke flowers! I want to do stunning one stroke flowers so badly but, although I have worked with paint brushes and acrylic paints a lot, the one stroke technique is just not working for me. I had dreamed up how gorgeous white and yellow flowers would look against this blue. But no matter how I tried, I failed at it. Is there any nail art technique that you could submit for a “Fail at this Friday” feature?

Neon Leopard Print

Hi ladies!
Before we get to the nails I’d like to let you know that it recently came to my attention that the “word verification” was set to ON for my comment section. Which means those of you who have been commenting are absolute darlings for enduring those stupid captchas all this time! I’m so sorry about that! Anyway, I’ve changed it and hopefully we are past that. Let me know if it pops up again because I remember turning it off when I first started the blog since I knew what a pain captchas can be especially on smartphones.

On to the good stuff!

RAWR!

So I have been feeling pretty low the past few days and decided I needed a really fun mani to cheer me up. So I incorporated my one of my favorites (leopard print) with the Shutterbug’s favorite thing (neons) and came up with this. What do you think? These are so fun and flashy! If you have been around, you already know I have a tough time going full blown neon on my nails. But I think this works for me for a fun day off.

I started with two coats of Jocarste white. Using a medium-large dotting tool, I added oddly shaped dots with Klik Neon Pink, Neon Green, Neon Orange, Neon Blue and Neon Yellow. Then I took my tiny dotting tool and added all the black with Oh My Golly Blackout. The colors actually look more highlighter-esque IRL.

I hope you are having a great week. Keep smiling!

Guest Post by Eeeek! Nail Polish!

Hey gals!

I am ridiculously excited about today’s post. I’m welcoming my very first guest blogger to the blog and boy is she a good one! If you don’t already follow Jemma’s blog, Eeeek! Nail Polish!, then you are missing out on some of the best nail art out there! I was so excited when she agreed to do a guest post for me. On top of her nail art talents, she is a sweetheart. Now I’ll stop my waffling (did I use that word right Jemma?)and let you see her work her magic.

*********************************************************************************

Hey there fellow Nailinator fans! My name’s Jemma aka Eeeek Nail Polish! and I’m so pleased to be here! When Rachael asked if I’d like to do a guest post for her lovely blog I said yes immediately! Not only are Rach’s manis awesome (if you missed her Van Gogh Starry Night mani for the OMD challenge do it right now as it’s just amazing!) but Rach is one of the most sweetest bloggers I’ve had the good fortune to meet! I asked Rachael if there was any particular theme she would like me to do and she cleverly suggested that as it was her Daughter’s birthday in August perhaps I could do a mani based on one of her favourite things and Rach’s little one loves….ladybugs! Or ladybirds as we call them in the UK – don’t know why as they look nothing like birds lol ?!

Ladybugs for a Little Lady

For this mani I used

  • Essie ‘Hip-anema’ (red base coat) 2 coats
  • O.P.I ‘My Boyfriend Scales Walls’ (white base colour) 2 coats
  • Bundle Monster Stamping plate BM 13 ( ladybug design)
  • BarryM Gelly ‘Blood Orange’ (stamping colour)
  • China Glaze ‘Liquid Leather’ (black detailing)
  • Dotting tool and fine paint brush
  • Seche Vite

First of all I painted my base colours; My Boyfriend Scales walls is probably my favourite off white creme. It only takes 2 coats and isn’t streaky or patchy at all 🙂 Essie’s Hip-anema (it’s probably just me but I keep reading that as anaemia :-/ …) was pretty much a one-coater, I only did two as there was just the slightest visible nail line after the first coat. I then added a layer of Seche Vite. I did this for two reason, firstly to speed up drying time and secondly to allow me to wipe off any stamping mistakes; if you get a cotton pad with some remover on it and swipe once over the nail it will remove the stamping mishap without taking off the base colour. It won’t be as shiny as before but as you would put more topcoat over the finished stamping it doesn’t matter :-).

The BarryM Gelly Range of polishes are mostly all highly pigmented (there are a couple that aren’t) but this means they are great for stamping! So I used Blood Orange to stamp the ladybugs onto my nails. However this did leave me with a problem; all of the ladybugs were red and were missing their black spots and black antenna and heads. So, using a fine paintbrush and a dotting tool, I added the black details using Liquid Leather . To finish it off I used a dotting tool again and made different sized dots on my index and pinky fingers. Then I added another coat of Seche Vite to seal it all in.

I hope you liked it and big thank you to Rachel for giving me the chance to guest post!

Take care!

What did I tell you? I cannot get over how cute these little lady bugs are! Great work Jemma! When my little lady saw them she said “Ooooh! Pahlish nails! Pretty ladybugs. Pretty dot dots (that’s what she calls polka dots).” Then she asked me to do her nails too. Thanks so much Jemma!

You can see much more of Jemma’s brilliant work on her blog or on Facebook.

Have a great weekend!
